Further Afield

If you fancy a short trip out of the city centre, there are some fantastic options for days out. Here are some of my favourites;

Hampton Court Palace

One of Henry VIII's many palaces, this a true delight. It feels like Henry himself could sweep around the corner at any moment...

The kitchens and banqueting hall are the highlight, along with the spectacular gardens. This is a fantastic day out for families.

Recommended time; 4-6 hours including travel time (30mins-1hour each way)

Windsor Castle

This lovely castle is Her Majesty the Queen's preferred home. She grew up here, and it is the largest constantly inhabited castle in the world. It has been home to the British monarch for nearly 1000 years, and more recently was the place where the world watched Harry and Meghan get married.

Recommended time; 5-6 hours including travel time (45mins - 1.5hrs each way)

Leeds Castle

Once described as "the loveliest castle in all the world", Leeds Castle is an absolute gem. Surrounded by parkland, and famous for the black swans on the lake, Leeds Castle has a long history of being owned by many Queens of England, and was the hot place to party in the 1920s.

Car transport required. Travel time approx 1.5hrs each way. Recommended time; as part of a full day tour with other locations in Kent.
